The Caproni group 2 gear pump is the European built value line in the size that suits most Australian work. Twelve displacements from 4.5 to 36 cm3 per revolution, on either the European 4 bolt DIN mount with a 1:8 taper or the American SAE A 2 bolt mount with a keyed or splined shaft, in BSPP threaded, square flange or UN O-ring porting. How to choose

Work out the flow you need first. Litres per minute = displacement in cc x rpm divided by 1000, then take off 5 to 10 percent for slip. A 1,450 rpm electric motor on a 16.8cc pump gives roughly 23 L/min.
Then check the pressure. Continuous pressure falls as displacement rises on every gear pump frame. Read the performance table for the exact displacement you are choosing, not the headline figure.
Match the mount and shaft to the machine. 4 bolt DIN with a 1:8 taper is the European standard. SAE 2 bolt with a keyed or splined shaft is the American standard and is what most Australian bell housings, gearboxes and couplings expect.
Confirm rotation from the shaft end. Gear pumps cannot be reversed in the field. Look at the shaft coming towards you and note which way it turns.
Check the power available. kW = flow in L/min x pressure in bar divided by 600, then divide by about 0.85 for efficiency. There is no point specifying a pump the engine or motor cannot turn.

Technicians Advice

Read the pressure column, not the headline. Continuous pressure on this frame falls from 250 bar at 4.5cc to 100 bar at 36cc, and maximum speed falls from 3,500 to 2,000 rpm. The performance tables below are per displacement for exactly that reason.
Seals change with size. The 25cc and larger frames come with HNBR seals as standard because they run hotter. If you are ordering a seal kit for one of those, say so - a plain nitrile kit will not last in it.
Size the relief for full pump flow. A 36cc pump at 1,450 rpm is about 50 litres a minute. The relief has to pass all of it at the set pressure or the pressure will climb straight past the setting.
Match the mount properly. 4 bolt DIN with a 1:8 taper is the European standard and needs a taper hub. SAE A 2 bolt with a keyed or splined shaft is the American standard and is what most Australian gearboxes, bell housings and couplings expect. They are not interchangeable.
UN O-ring ports are not BSPP. The 3/4 inch shaft pumps come with UN O-ring boss ports. Do not wind a BSPP fitting into them - you will damage the port and it will still leak.
Cavitation looks like wear. Frosted, pitted gear faces and a rattling pump mean air, not age. Fix the suction before you fit a new pump or you will buy two.

12-month warranty on every pump. If you are identifying an existing pump, photograph every number cast or stamped on the body and the shaft end and send it through with your enquiry - gear pump part numbers are long and one letter changes the shaft or the rotation.
