BSP Tapered Female x BSP Tapered Male 90° Compact Elbow

The BSP street elbow. Male one end, female the other, turned 90°, so it screws straight into a port and gives you a female to land the next fitting on without adding a nipple.

Thread Standards

• BSP Tapered Female – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the thread interference and must be taped or sealed.
• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.

How to Choose

• Male into the port, female for whatever follows. Reducing street elbows are stocked, so check both sizes.
• Both ends are tapered and both need tape or sealant.
• A street elbow saves the length of a 90 plus a nipple, which matters in a crowded valve bank.

Where You’ll Find It

• BSP Tapered Female – Female side of local pipework, adaptor blocks and gauge manifolds.
• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.

Cross-Reference

• BSP Tapered Female – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21, written Rc for female.
• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21, written R for male. Sometimes labelled PT or BSP taper.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.

Technicians Advice

Tighten only until the elbow points where you need it. BSPT has no set number of turns, and continuing to wind it round to aim the outlet is how cast housings get cracked. If the angle has to be exact, use a parallel male with a bonded washer so you have something to adjust against.
