BSP Tapered Male x JIC 37° Swivel Female 90° Compact Elbow

Tapered BSP screws into the local port, JIC swivel female takes the imported hose, and the body turns it 90°. Because the JIC end swivels, the hose can be aimed and tightened without being wound up.

Thread Standards

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.
• JIC 37° Swivel Female – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals on the 37° cone seat and swivels, so the hose is never wound up during assembly.

How to Choose

• Tape or sealant on the BSPT end only. The JIC swivel seals on its 37° cone and must stay dry.
• Confirm the port is BSP tapered and not NPT. The thread forms are 55° and 60° and will not seal against each other.
• The swivel size and the port size are independent; pick each to suit what it mates with.

• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.
• JIC 37° Swivel Female – Hose ends on imported machinery, where the swivel lets the assembly be fitted without winding up the hose.

Technicians Advice

Wind the tapered end home first and get the elbow pointing where you want it, then connect the hose to the swivel. Doing it the other way round means twisting a made-up hose to aim the fitting, which puts a permanent wind-up in the assembly and shortens its life a lot.
