Australian Made Hydraulic Phasing Cylinders with 16” Stroke, from 3"to 5"bore Forces from 7.9 to 25 Tons at 3,000 psi (210 bar)

Product Details
Weight: 38.00 kg (Estimated - will vary slightly based on bore)
Australia Made Phasing Cylinders with 16” Stroke available to be connected in series to produce synchronised extension and retraction of a series of multiple cylinders.
Available in bores from 3" to 5" inches in 1/4" bore increments, lifting forces from 7.9 to 25.3 tons at 3,000 psi (Note: Forces are the same as 8" stroke phasing cylinders for a given bore).
Phasing cylinders are ideal for: construction and agricultural applications where you need to lift or lower independent, long or large loads evenly when plumbed in series.
One irritating fact with normal style hydraulic cylinders: is that they will never move at the same rate as each other when plumbed up in a series. This is due to slight tolerance differences, seal age differences hose lengths, and loads etc.
The oil pressure will always go wherever there is the least resistance, so if one cylinder's seals are a little worn, or pushing weight is less, that ram will extend at a faster rate.
Phasing cylinders are one solution that will ensure all cylinders extend & retract at the same rate: This is made possible because the oil volume sizes are precisely worked out for each ram by changing rod diameter, & cylinder bore.
Typical Uses: when you want to Ensure that a group of cylinders connected in series are synchronised and have even movement. especially when lifting or moving large, long, or uneven loads. This prevents uneven extension or retraction due to minor differences in cylinder tolerances or load variations.

Examples by Industry:

Manufacturing:
  • Parallel Press Movement: Ensuring even pressure distribution in large presses.
  • Synchronized Assembly: Even movement of large components in automation.

Agriculture:

  • Even Seeding: Maintaining consistent depth on wide seeding bars.
  • Level Lifting/Lowering: Keeping cultivators and land levelers horizontal.
  • Synchronized Harvesting: Even movement of cutting platforms.
  • Consistent Spraying: Leveling sprayer booms for uniform chemical application.
Construction:
  • Stable Elevated Platforms: Level and safe movement of scissor and boom lifts.
  • Even Outrigger Deployment: Synchronized extension/retraction on mobile cranes.
  • Controlled Formwork Movement: Even placement of concrete forms.
  • Level Lifting: Raising large structures evenly at multiple points.
Material Handling:
  • Level Platform Lifting: Stable movement of large industrial lifts.
  • Synchronized Carriage Movement: Even motion in automated storage systems.
  • Even Tilting: Smooth and controlled tilting of large truck trays.
Transportation:
  • Trailer Leveling/Suspension: Maintaining stability on specialized trailers.
  • In essence, phasing cylinders are used whenever consistent, simultaneous movement of multiple interconnected cylinders is critical for the application's function, safety, or precision.
How to choose your phasing rams correctly:
First establish your Stroke required: ie 8" or 12” or 16” or 18" or more. You must then choose all other matching rams in this same ‘Stroke’ range.
Then decide how many rams: are required.
Then choose your ‘Master’ ram size: (the larger the ‘bore’ size, the more tonnage available please see chart or drop down menu)
Then, pick your next ‘slave’ ram: as the next bore size down from the Master. Continue going down one bore size at a time for multiple phasing rams.
Bleeding the system: Our phasing cylinders have a internal poppet on the piston that allows oil to flush through the cylinders when fully extended this will bleed cylinders automatically.
How do Phasing Cylinders Work: Phasing cylinders are engineered with matching internal volumes to eliminate uneven movement.
During operation, the fluid displaced from the rod end of the preceding larger cylinder supplies the fluid to the piston end of the following smaller cylinder. Matching the corresponding internal rod end and piston end volumes ensures the cylinders in series extend and retract simultaneously thus eliminating uneven Movements.
Key Takeaway:
When the hydraulic system is fed from the largest cylinder (5" bore for example) the initial force generated is the highest. As the oil flows to the progressively smaller cylinders, the force each cylinder can exert decreases due to the smaller effective piston areas.
(Please see table below or the Drop down size menu - Note: Force values remain the same as the 8" stroke cylinders for each bore size).
However, the speed of extension and retraction for all cylinders in a correctly designed phasing system will remain synchronised due to the engineered volume relationships. and therefore the 16" stroke and speed will be maintained across all cylinders.

Expected Forces of different Phasing Cylinders with different bore diameters:
Summary of Forces (Starting with a 5" Bore at 3,000 psi oil feed)
  • 5" Bore (Master): 24,3 metric tons
  • 4.75" Bore: = 21.7 metric tons
  • 4.5" Bore: = 19,24 metric tons
  • 4.25" Bore: = 17,29 metric tons
  • 4" Bore: = 15,08 metric tons
  • 3.75" Bore: = 13 metric tons
  • 3.5" Bore: = 11,42 metric tons
  • 3.25" Bore: = 9,62 metric tons
  • 3" Bore: =7,95 metric tons
