BSP Tapered Male x JIC 37° Male 90° Compact Elbow

The BSPT-to-JIC crossover in a hard 90°, and one of the most-reached-for adaptors on the truck. Tapered male into the Australian-standard port, JIC male out to the imported hose, and the elbow keeps the hose tight against the guarding.

Thread Standards

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.
• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.

How to Choose

• The BSPT end needs tape or sealant; the JIC end takes none. Getting this backwards is the single most common cause of a leak on this fitting.
• JIC 37° will not seal against a BSP 60° cone even though the nut may thread on.
• Size the two ends separately to suit the port and the hose.

Where You’ll Find It

• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.
• JIC 37° Male – Hose ends and ports on imported US and Asian machinery – Caterpillar, John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Bobcat, Kubota, Takeuchi.

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21, written R for male. Sometimes labelled PT or BSP taper.
• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Parker call this series Triple-Lok. The industrial cousin of the AN 37° flare used in aviation and motorsport.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.

Cross-references are given at series level as a guide to the standard, not as a part-for-part substitution. Always confirm the thread form, size and seal type against the port before ordering.

Technicians Advice

On a machine that has been repaired before, look at the cone before fitting a new hose. A witness ring at the wrong angle means someone has previously run a BSP hose end onto the JIC seat, and that cone will not seal again no matter how much torque it gets.
