BSP Parallel Male x BSP Tapered Male 45° Compact Elbow

A short-body 45° elbow that turns a line part-way without the bulk of a swept bend – the fitting to reach when a hose wants to leave a port on an angle but there is no room to arc it. One end is BSP parallel male, the other BSP tapered male, so it also lets you step between the two BSP families in a single fitting. Standard kit on Aussie-built tippers, truck bodies, Kanga and Dingo loaders, Merlo, Manitou, JCB and general farm machinery.

Thread Standards

• BSP Parallel Male – BSPP to ISO 1179 / BS 2779. It seals on a 60° cone seat or a bonded washer under the hex.
• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself.

How to Choose

• First number is the parallel end, second is the tapered end – check both with the chart below.
• Compact means the shortest body available in this bend. If you have room, a swept elbow flows better.
• Zinc-plated carbon steel. 316 stainless is available in our Stainless Steel range.

Where You’ll Find It

• BSP Parallel Male – Valve and manifold ports on Australian, British and Asian-built equipment, and most locally made hose ends. The default port thread on Australian truck and agricultural hydraulics.
• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21, written R for male. Sometimes labelled PT or BSP taper.

Technicians Advice

The two ends behave completely differently and that catches people out. The parallel end seals on its cone seat or bonded washer – no tape, no sealant, just torque it. The tapered end seals on the thread and does want a sealant or PTFE tape, wound with the thread and kept two threads back from the leading edge so nothing shears off into the circuit. Never put tape on the parallel end.
