BSP Parallel Male x BSP Tapered Male Straight Adaptor

The parallel-to-tapered BSP crossover in a straight nipple. One end seals on a washer, the other on the thread, which makes it the fitting for getting off a tapered port into parallel plumbing.

Thread Standards

• BSP Parallel Male – BSPP to ISO 228. It seals on a bonded washer against the port face or on a 60° cone, never on the thread itself.
• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.

How to Choose

• BSPP and BSPT share the same 55° form and pitch, so they start into each other happily and then leak. Identify the port before ordering.
• The tapered end needs tape or sealant. The parallel end needs a bonded washer and must stay dry.
• A tapered thread visibly narrows along its length; a parallel one measures the same at both ends.

Technicians Advice

Both ends are male BSP and look nearly identical in your hand. Mark the tapered end before you start, because taping the parallel end and washering the tapered end is a leak that can take an hour to find on a machine.

Where You’ll Find It

• BSP Parallel Male – Valve and manifold ports on Australian, British and Asian-built equipment, and most locally made hose ends. The default port thread on Australian truck and agricultural hydraulics.
• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.
