Thread Standards

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself, so it needs PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant.
• BSP Parallel Female – BSPP to ISO 228. It needs a bonded washer or a cone seat to seal, because a parallel thread cannot seal on itself.

How to Choose

• A test point tee puts a gauge or sender port into a live line without breaking into it permanently.
• Three different BSP families on one part. Tapered seals on the thread, swivel on its cone, parallel on a washer.
• Sealant on the tapered leg only.

Technicians Advice

Cap the test port when it is not in use. It is the port that sits open collecting muck, and that muck goes straight into the circuit the moment a gauge is screwed in.

Where You’ll Find It

• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.
• BSP Swivel Female – Hose ends across Australian-built assemblies, and anywhere a joint has to be broken and remade repeatedly.
• BSP Parallel Female – Female side of BSPP manifolds, adaptor blocks and gauge assemblies on local equipment.

• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21, written R for male. Sometimes labelled PT or BSP taper.
• BSP Swivel Female – BSPP body to ISO 228 with a 60° cone seat. Commonly called a BSP swivel or BSP female cone seat.
• BSP Parallel Female – BSPP to ISO 228 / BS 2779, written G.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
