On a load sensing pump the number that matters is the margin – pump outlet minus LS signal – and you cannot read it accurately by swapping one gauge between two points, because the reading changes with load while you swap. Two gauges side by side show the margin live: if standby is right but margin collapses under load, chase the LS line and shuttle checks, not the pump. For overnight intermittents, plumb a USB logger onto the suspect circuit, let the machine work a full shift, and read the csv in the morning – the fault leaves fingerprints even when nobody is watching.
