Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.

How to Choose

• Equal and reducing sizes are stocked. Reducing through the nipple is neater than stacking a JIC bush on the end of a hose.
• JIC seals metal to metal on the 37° cone. No tape, no sealant, no O-ring. Anything on the thread only masks a poor seat.
• Watch for 45° flare mixed into the same machine. The two will engage but the seat contact is wrong and it will fret through.

Technicians Advice

Both cones need to be clean and unmarked. A JIC that has been nipped up with grit on the seat leaves a witness ring, and once that ring is there the joint will seep every time the machine warms up. Wipe both cones with a clean rag before you pull them together.

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Parker call this series Triple-Lok. The industrial cousin of the AN 37° flare used in aviation and motorsport.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
