BSP Swivel Female x BSP Tapered Male 45° Compact Elbow

A 45° compact elbow with a swivelling female end, so the fitting can be lined up after the male end is tight. That swivel is the point of it – you set the angle you want without fighting the thread or twisting the hose behind it. Widely used on Aussie-built tippers, truck bodies, Kanga and Dingo loaders, Merlo, Manitou, JCB and general farm machinery.

Thread Standards

• BSP Swivel Female – BSPP 60° cone to ISO 8434-6. It seals metal-to-metal on the 60° cone.
• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21. It seals on the tapered thread itself.

How to Choose

• First number is the swivel female end, second is the tapered male end.
• Use the swivel end toward the hose so the assembly can be clocked into position.
• Compact body keeps the bend inside tight guarding and bracketry.

Where You’ll Find It

• BSP Swivel Female – Hose ends across Australian-built assemblies, and anywhere a joint has to be broken and remade repeatedly.
• BSP Tapered Male – Older Australian and British pipework, gauge ports, tank and return lines, and cast pump and gearbox housings.

Cross-Reference

• BSP Swivel Female – BSPP body to ISO 228 with a 60° cone seat. Commonly called a BSP swivel or BSP female cone seat.
• BSP Tapered Male – BSPT to ISO 7 / BS 21, written R for male. Sometimes labelled PT or BSP taper.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.

Technicians Advice

The swivel nut seals on the 60° cone inside it, metal to metal, so it goes on dry – sealant on that end achieves nothing and can end up in the circuit. The tapered male end is the opposite and does want PTFE tape or sealant. Hold the elbow body with a second spanner while you tighten the swivel nut, otherwise you unwind the tapered end you just sealed.
