Thread Standards

• ORFS Male – SAE J1453 O-ring face seal. It seals on an O-ring sitting in the flat face groove, never on the thread.

How to Choose

• Both ends seal on an O-ring in the flat face. Nothing goes on either thread.
• Check both grooves and both rings before fitting. A missing ring on the end you cannot see is easy to do.
• ORFS thread size and line size are different numbers, so work to the dash size on the hose.

Technicians Advice

ORFS is the standard to have where a machine vibrates hard, because there is no thread sealant to shake loose and no metal seat to fret. That only holds if the rings are right, so make a habit of looking into both faces before the fitting goes anywhere near the machine.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
