Thread Standards

• BSP Parallel Female – BSPP to ISO 228. It needs a bonded washer or a cone seat to seal, because a parallel thread cannot seal on itself.
• BSP Parallel Male – BSPP to ISO 228. It seals on a bonded washer against the port face or on a 60° cone, never on the thread itself.

How to Choose

• Both ends are parallel and neither seals on the thread. Washer or cone seat at each end.
• Check which way you need to go. The female is the port side you are creating, the male is the port you are screwing into.
• Stacking a bush on a nipple works but adds two more joints. A single reducing bush is fewer places to leak.

Technicians Advice

Every bush you add is another pair of sealing faces. Where the size step can be done in the fitting itself rather than through a bush, do it that way. Fewer joints is always the more reliable job.

• BSP Parallel Female – Female side of BSPP manifolds, adaptor blocks and gauge assemblies on local equipment.
• BSP Parallel Male – Valve and manifold ports on Australian, British and Asian-built equipment, and most locally made hose ends. The default port thread on Australian truck and agricultural hydraulics.
