Fan Kits and Cooler Spares

Coolers usually fail at the fan or at the core, not everywhere at once. This is where you replace the moving part or the metal part instead of the whole cooler. It is also where people building their own cooling pack start.

Which part do I need

Work out whether the fan or the core is the problem.

  • An ASA Hydraulik cooler that has stopped moving air. Start with a matched ILLELE fan kit for that model, because it is built for the shroud the cooler came with.
  • Anything else, or your own build. An MBD axial fan by Sovatec, sized on the diameter you can fit.
  • A core that is leaking or bent past repair. A bare 12 Series aluminium core lets you keep the fan and shroud you have.

Either way, get push versus pull right. A push fan sits behind the core and blows through it, a pull fan sits in front and draws through it, and the wrong one on an existing shroud loses most of the cooling.

Part Range Sizes Drive or power Notes
ASA fan kits ILLELE Matched to specific ASA models Set by the cooler model 12V or 24V DC Push or pull to suit the original build
MBD axial fans by Sovatec Replacement and custom builds 190mm to 385mm diameter 78 to 252 watts IP68, push is AAA and pull is BAA
Bare radiator cores ILLEC 12 Series aluminium 330 by 220mm to 540 by 630mm No fan, core only 26 bar, SAE 16 ports, SAE 20 on ILLEC1296K

Fitting it and what else you need

Match the airflow direction to the shroud the cooler was built with, and check the voltage before you order. Size the fuse on fan inrush, not running current, because a fan draws far more in the first moment than once it is turning. A twin-fan cooler needs two controllers. Clean the fins with low pressure air from the outlet side, back the way the air came in, never a pressure washer, because it folds the fins flat. A bare core still goes in the return line and is still a 26 bar part. If the core keeps blocking with chaff, look at the reversing controller under thermostats, switches and indicators, and mounting hardware is under cooler connectors and mounting.

Common questions

Can I fit any fan of the right diameter? Diameter is only half of it. Airflow direction has to match the shroud, and voltage and current have to match the wiring and fuse. A matched ILLELE kit takes the guesswork out.

What is the difference between AAA and BAA? AAA is a push fan, BAA is a pull fan. Same family, opposite airflow.

Do the bare cores come with a fan? No. They are SAE ported, SAE 16 across the range and SAE 20 on ILLEC1296K, and come with no fan and no shroud.

Should I recore or replace the cooler? If the fan, shroud and mounting are sound, a core or a fan kit is the smaller job. If the whole assembly has had a hard life, look at a complete air blast oil cooler.
