How to choose

A plug fills a female port or fitting; a cap covers a male end. Male thread showing = you need a cap; open hole = you need a plug.
Measure the thread outside diameter and match it to the size column – the dash number in brackets is the thread size in 1/16ths of an inch.

Technicians Advice

Parallel threads do not seal on the thread – the seal is the bonded washer or O-ring under the hex, so never rely on PTFE tape alone. Nip the plug to the washer, then a quarter turn. If the port face is scored, no washer will save it: dress the face or use a tapered plug in a tapped hole instead.
