The workhorse VMDR body — 40 L/min in 3/8" or 1/2" BSPP — the right size for most group 1 and group 2 gear pump circuits: log splitters, tippers, ag implements and small power units. Direct acting, adjustable across the spring range, Italian made.
Use the dropdowns above to pick your port size and pressure spring — choose the spring so your working pressure lands in the middle of its range, not at either end.
| Ports | Max Flow | Spring Range | Part Number |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3/8 inch BSPP | 40 L/min | 10 to 90 bar | VMDR40-380C1 |
| 3/8 inch BSPP | 40 L/min | 20 to 210 bar | VMDR40-380C2 |
| 3/8 inch BSPP | 40 L/min | 70 to 350 bar | VMDR40-380C3 |
| 1/2 inch BSPP | 40 L/min | 10 to 90 bar | VMDR40-120C1 |
| 1/2 inch BSPP | 40 L/min | 20 to 210 bar | VMDR40-120C2 |
| 1/2 inch BSPP | 40 L/min | 70 to 350 bar | VMDR40-120C3 |
Set it with a gauge, never by feel. Dead-head slowly against a gauge, wind to target, lock the locknut. Set it to protect the weakest component — on a log splitter or tipper that is usually the pump — typically 10-15% above maximum working pressure. Pick the spring so your setting sits in its middle third; springs drift at the ends of their range. If oil sits over relief for more than a few seconds at a time, fix the circuit — a relief valve is protection, not a flow control, and it makes heat fast at 40 L/min.
