ORFS Swivel Female x ORFS Male 45° Compact Elbow

Flat-face O-ring seal at both ends in a compact 45° body. ORFS is the standard for high-pressure work that vibrates – excavators, drill rigs, crushers – because the seal is an O-ring on a flat face rather than a metal cone that can fret loose.

Thread Standards

• ORFS Swivel Female – SAE J1453 O-ring face seal. It clamps down onto the male flat face O-ring and swivels for alignment.
• ORFS Male – SAE J1453 O-ring face seal. It seals on an O-ring sitting in the flat face groove, never on the thread.

How to Choose

• Match the flat face size, not just the thread. ORFS thread sizes repeat across different face diameters.
• The O-ring lives in the male face. Check it is present and undamaged before assembly, because a missing O-ring will not seal at any torque.
• ORFS and JIC are not interchangeable even where the nut appears to fit.

• ORFS Swivel Female – Hose ends on modern high-pressure plant where a cone joint would fret loose under vibration.
• ORFS Male – High-pressure, high-vibration circuits on late-model excavators, drill rigs, crushers and forestry gear.

Technicians Advice

The most common ORFS failure is a nicked or twisted O-ring, not a loose nut. Wipe both faces clean, roll the O-ring into its groove rather than stretching it over the thread, and bring the swivel up square. Once the faces touch, very little extra torque is needed.
