How to choose

• Match the thread of your existing drain port – the dash number in each label is the size in 1/16ths of an inch.
• Filter rods beat plugs where there is no return filter – the magnet sits up in the circulating oil, not just in the sump.
• No threaded port? Weld in a boss and fit whichever plug or rod you like.

Technicians Advice

Cut a magnetic drain plug loose after 50 hours on a new machine and read the fuzz: fine grey paste is normal running-in, glitter or flakes means a pump or gear is letting go – catch it here and you save the whole circuit. On DC power packs there is usually NO return filter, so the magnet is your only filtration; wipe it every oil change. Seal BSPP plugs on the washer, not on thread tape – tape shreds and ends up in the pump. And when welding in a boss, screw a sacrificial bolt into it first so weld spatter cannot key into the thread.
