Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Fixed Female – SAE J514 37° flare, non-swivel. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone but does NOT swivel, so the mating part must be free to turn.
• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.

How to Choose

• This female is fixed, not swivel. The part going into it has to be able to rotate, or you will wind up the line.
• Both ends seal metal to metal on the 37° cone. No tape, no sealant.
• If the run cannot turn at either end, use the swivel female version instead.

Technicians Advice

Fixed female is the one that catches people out. If both ends of the assembly are rigid, something has to give and it is usually the cone. Check you have a swivel somewhere in the run before you fit a fixed female into it.

Where You’ll Find It

• JIC 37° Fixed Female – American and Australian-built machinery on JIC-plumbed circuits. Used where a rigid female is wanted for a bulkhead, manifold or a run that is assembled from one end.
• JIC 37° Male – Hose ends and ports on imported US and Asian machinery – Caterpillar, John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Bobcat, Kubota, Takeuchi.

Cross-Reference

• JIC 37° Fixed Female – SAE J514 / JIC 37° flare, fixed nut. Parker call the 37° range Triple-Lok. The fixed female is a different part from the swivel female even at the same thread and cone.
• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Parker call this series Triple-Lok. The industrial cousin of the AN 37° flare used in aviation and motorsport.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
