Thread Standards

• BSP Bulkhead Male – BSP parallel thread on a bulkhead body with a locknut. It seals on a bonded washer or a 60° cone in the mating part; the bulkhead thread and locknut only clamp it to the panel.
• BSP Parallel Male – BSPP to ISO 228. It seals on a bonded washer against the port face or on a 60° cone, never on the thread itself.

How to Choose

• The bulkhead thread and locknut clamp the fitting to the panel. They do no sealing, so do not try to cure a leak by tightening the locknut.
• Check your panel hole size and thickness before you order. The body has a set thread length under the shoulder and a thick panel eats it.
• Both sealing ends want a bonded washer or a 60° cone in the mating part. A parallel thread does not seal on itself.

Technicians Advice

Fit the body through the panel and nip the locknut before you connect anything to it. Trying to hold the body still while you wind a hose on is how the panel hole gets chewed out and the fitting ends up sitting crooked.

• BSP Parallel Male – Valve and manifold ports on Australian, British and Asian-built equipment, and most locally made hose ends. The default port thread on Australian truck and agricultural hydraulics.

• BSP Parallel Male – BSPP to ISO 228 / BS 2779, written G. Also called BSP parallel or gas thread.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
