3-Port Cartridge Valve Bodies, Aluminium and Steel, 1/4 to 3/4 inch BSPP

Screw-in cartridge bodies with three BSPP ports, to suit 08-3, 10-3 and 12-3 common cavity cartridges – 3-way solenoid valves, pressure reducing cartridges and pilot operated checks all need one. Also includes the through-port bodies that let a line run straight past the cartridge.

What the through-port bodies are for

The L2220xx bodies carry a through port – oil can pass straight across the block as well as through the cartridge. That lets you drop a cartridge into an existing line without breaking the run into two separate hoses, which saves two fittings and a lot of fiddling in a tight space.

Aluminium or steel?

Aluminium bodies are rated 210 bar, steel 350 bar. Choose by your relief setting, not your working pressure.

What the cavity code means

Every screw-in cartridge has a cavity code – 08-2, 10-3, 12-2, 16-2 and so on. The first number is the frame size, the second is how many ports the cavity has. A 10-3 cartridge only fits a 10-3 body. Get the cavity right and everything else follows; get it wrong and nothing you buy will thread in.

Technicians Advice

Cavity code first, port size second – in that order, every time. A 10-2 cartridge will not thread into an 08-2 body no matter how close the threads look, and the two are only a few thou apart. Aluminium bodies are 210 bar, steel are 350 bar: pick by your relief setting, not your working pressure, and remember an aluminium body on a machine that gets a pressure spike from a load slamming will crack around the port before it leaks.

Chase the cavity clean and blow it out before the cartridge goes in – the sealing lands are machined into the body, and one nick from a dropped cartridge means the whole body is scrap. Torque to the cartridge maker’s figure on the hex, not by feel: aluminium in particular will let you pull the thread straight out.

Support the body properly – a manifold hanging on its own hoses works the ports loose and cracks them, so bolt it to something. If you are stacking several functions, mount the block where a technician can actually get a spanner on it, because the cartridge that fails will always be the one behind the chassis rail.
