Plug it in, or take the power with you. When the cylinder is big enough that a hand pump becomes a workout, or the same cycle repeats all day, this is where you go. Single phase bench units, 415 V three phase machines, and cordless pumps that run off two 18 volt Milwaukee packs when there is no power at all.

Three things decide the model. Power – three phase is faster and cheaper per litre, but only if the bench has it. Reservoir – size it off the cylinder: bore area multiplied by stroke, then pick a pump with usable oil above that. Valve – a manual lever if the pump sits beside the job, a solenoid with a pendant if the operator needs to stand clear of the load or the cycle repeats.
