Product Details
Brand: Turtle Plastics
Weight: 1.36 kg

Turtle Plastics Lock Block – Composite Stacking Block, 31 Tonne, 1" to 3"

Lock blocks are the fine adjustment of a crib stack. Nine inches square, in one, two and three inch thicknesses, all rated to 31 tonne, and they key into each other so a stack does not shuffle. Use them to bring a tower up to the last few inches under a load instead of leaving a gap.

Ways to buy

  • T-1B – 9" x 9" x 1", 31,000 kg, 1.36 kg.
  • T-2B – 9" x 9" x 2", 31,000 kg, 2.26 kg.
  • T-3B – 9" x 9" x 3", 31,000 kg, 3.17 kg.
  • Buy a mix. One of each gives you 1" steps up to 6" without leaving a gap under the load.
  • Cribbing blocks, slabs, wedges, step chocks and pads – separate listings, linked at the bottom of this page.

How to choose

  • Never leave a gap under the load. That is what lock blocks are for – get the crib within an inch, then fill the rest.
  • Keep the stack square. A 9" square block on top of a 2" wide crib is not a stack, it is a see-saw.
  • Carry a set of three. 1", 2" and 3" combine to any height from 1" to 6" in one inch steps.

Technicians Advice

The cylinder lifts. The cribbing holds. That is the whole discipline, and the people who get hurt are the ones who forget the second half of it – a seal can pass, a hose can get knocked, a coupler can be half engaged, and a load held on oil pressure alone comes down. Build the crib as you lift: a little bit of stroke, a little bit of crib, repeat.

A tower built in 50 mm bites is stable and you always have support within a few millimetres of the load. Keep the stack square and keep it under about three times its narrowest base dimension in height – taller than that and it will walk under vibration or a knock. The capacity figures on this page are for a block loaded flat and evenly on a firm base; point-load the corner of a crib and the number means nothing, which is exactly what the pads are for.

On soft ground, on summer bitumen, or on a trailer deck, the jack needs a pad too – a 100 tonne ram sitting on a 100 mm base is putting the weight of ten cars through something the size of a saucer.

Things worth knowing: never mix timber and composite blocks in one stack, because they compress at different rates and the tower works itself loose; and the rope handles are for carrying the block, not for dragging a loaded one out from under something.
