Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.

How to Choose

• A plug is male and blocks a female port. A cap is female and covers a male end. Work out which one the open connection is before you order.
• Seals metal to metal on the 37° cone. No tape, no sealant, no O-ring.
• Do not confuse it with a 45° SAE plug. The two look alike and the wrong angle frets the seat.

Technicians Advice

Keep a few of these in the truck. Capping and plugging a line the moment it comes apart keeps dirt out and oil in, and it is the single cheapest thing you can do to stop a repair turning into a contamination problem.

Cross-Reference

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Parker call this series Triple-Lok. The industrial cousin of the AN 37° flare used in aviation and motorsport.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
