The right way to protect a pump: a 90-micron mesh spin-on with a gentle 5psi bypass, complete with alloy head, ready to fit between tank and pump. The coarse mesh grabs the big destructive particles without starving the inlet.

Every option here is a COMPLETE unit - head + 90 micron mesh element(s). Dual heads include TWO elements. Just pick your line size and flow.

How to Choose

Match the port size to your suction line and make sure the flow rating covers your pump - an undersized suction filter cavitates the pump.
Never run fine (10/25 micron) media on suction - fine filtration belongs on the return line (see our return assemblies below).
Tight on budget? A simple in-tank strainer (link below) is the entry-level option for the same job.

Technicians Advice

Add the 0-30 Hg vacuum gauge from our indicators listing to the 1/8" BSPT port - when it creeps toward the red at operating temp, change the can. Keep the suction line short and one size up if possible; every elbow adds vacuum. On cold mornings let the machine idle a minute before loading - thick oil pulls the bypass open until it warms.
