Air Blast Oil Coolers

An air blast cooler is a radiator core with a fan on it. Oil comes back from the machine, passes through the core, the fan moves air across the fins and the oil reaches tank cooler than it left. These are the coolers on excavators, tippers, truck cranes, log splitters and workshop power packs.

All three ASA Hydraulik families here are rated 26 bar and all of them are return line parts.

Which family do I need

Start with the space you have, then check what the ports do.

• Low Line. Compact, and the ports are threaded into the body, so they go straight onto hose tails.
• TT Rail. The middle of the range. The ports are not built in, so each cooler needs a complete rail connector kit.
• ASA Series. The big axial units, up to 1100 by 1170mm, and each one takes two connectors.

Common starting points are the TT07 for small mobile work, the TT36 at the top of the rail range, and the ASA0177 or ASA0927 for the heavier duties.

Fitting it and what else you need

Plumb it into the return line and leave room behind the cooler for the hose sweep. Do not box it in, or it breathes its own hot discharge air. Order a BP model if the machine sees cold starts, because that internal bypass at 2 bar saves the core when thick cold oil will not pass through. Drives are 12V DC, 24V DC, 240V AC with the motor, 240/415V AC where you fit your own B14 flange motor, and hydraulic. Wire the fan through a switch or controller from thermostats, switches and indicators, and size the fuse on inrush. Twin-fan models draw twice the listed current and need two controllers. Common questions

What cooling capacity does each model have? The factory publishes no kW rating and no oil flow rating for these coolers, so we will not print one. Selection is done on the machine's heat load, the oil temperature you want to hold and the ambient air, so call us with the duty.

Do I need a connector kit? TT Rail, one complete kit each. ASA Series, two connectors each. Low Line, none.

Can I fit one on a pressure line? No. The core is 26 bar and return line only. Where there is no return line to tap, use an offline or circulation cooler.

How do I clean the fins? Low pressure air from the outlet side, back the way the air came in. Never a pressure washer, it folds the fins flat.
