5.0" Bore Imported AG Style Hydraulic Cylinder — 2" High Tensile Chrome Rod

Affordable AG-style double-acting cylinder rated to 26.7 tonnes push force at 12" stroke, 207 bar (3,000 psi) — the highest-capacity bore in the range. Built from graded components with third-party-rated seals — not a generic "premium" import.

5.0" bore, 2" (50.8mm) high tensile chromed rod, dual 3/4" UNO ports, female clevis at each end for flexible mounting and hose routing, strokes from 8" to 48". AG-pattern dimensions, so it cross-interchanges with other common AG ram brands.

1-1/4" high tensile steel clevis pins — this is the only bore in the range to step up from the standard 1" pin. The larger diameter gives roughly 1.23 in² of pin cross-section versus 0.79 in² on the 1" pins used on the 4" bore range — about 56% more shear-bearing area at the pin.

Rod — K1045, AISI 1045 medium-carbon steel, hard chrome plated

• Chemical composition: 0.42–0.5% carbon, 0.6–0.9% manganese
• Tensile strength ≥ 5,650 bar (81,900 psi)
• Precision turned and polished, then electrolytically hard-chrome plated for surface hardness and corrosion resistance
• At 2" (50.8mm) diameter on a 5" bore, this rod is what gives the cylinder its 26.7-tonne rating at short stroke — the tensile figure above is the load-bearing property behind that number, not a marketing claim

Barrel — SAE1026 cold-drawn seamless honed steel

• Chemical composition: 0.22–0.28% carbon, 0.15–0.35% silicon, 0.6–0.9% manganese
• Tensile strength ≥ 6,400 bar (92,825 psi)
• Made via a 10-stage process: bar blank cutting → acid pickling → water rinsing → phosphate surface lubrication → cold drawing → annealing → straightening → cutting to length → honing/skiving → roller burnishing
• Result: a bore surface finish and wall consistency that's built for repeat seal cycling, not just a rolled tube

Piston, gland nut, and clevises — Spheroidal Graphite (SG/Ductile) Iron

• Chemical composition: 3.0–3.6% carbon, 2.0–2.8% silicon, 0.03–0.05% magnesium, 0.1–0.3% manganese
• Tensile strength ≥ 4,000–6,000 bar (58,000–87,000 psi)
• The magnesium addition turns the graphite structure from flakes (standard grey cast iron) into spheres/nodules — this is what lets the metal bend rather than snap under load, giving it ductility grey iron doesn't have
• Piston runs bearing-free directly on the honed barrel wall — no separate support bearings required

Rod wiper — Hallite 834

• Single-lipped, snap-in design, fits standard housings including many ISO 6195E sizes
• Rated -45°C to +110°C, rod speeds up to 4 m/sec
• Moulded in Hythane® 181 polyurethane for wear resistance
• Internal moulded ribs add stability and resist wiper blow-out from pressure trapped between the wiper and main rod seal
• Wiping lip profile is shaped to stay in contact with the rod surface and strip off mud and contamination on every stroke

Rod seal — Hallite, Hythane® 181

• Snap-in design
• Rated 400 bar max pressure, -45°C to +110°C, rod speeds up to 1 m/sec

Piston seal — Hallite 775

• Double-acting, compact profile, fits standard O-ring grooves
• Rated 350 bar max pressure, -30°C to +110°C, piston speeds up to 1 m/sec
• Face seal is polyurethane, pre-loaded by a rectangular-section NBR expander — rated for hydraulic mineral oil applications
• Advanced face geometry gives it single-acting-level dynamic sealing performance even in double-acting service, meaning less internal leakage across the piston than a basic double-acting profile

Force ratings — read before you order

Maximum safe push/pull force drops as stroke length increases — a short-stroke cylinder in this bore/rod combination can push far more than a long-stroke one before the rod risks buckling.

Example:

• AG 5012-200 (5" bore, 12" stroke, 2" dia rod) can push 26.7 tonnes at 207 bar (3,000 psi)
• AG 5030-200 (5" bore, 30" stroke, 2" dia rod) can only safely push 10.2 tonnes at 79 bar (1,146 psi) before rod buckling risk

Maximum retraction force for this size is a constant 22.4 tonnes (207 bar), regardless of stroke.

• Figures are based on a safety factor of 2, cylinder vertical and fully guided.
• Horizontal mounting or arc operation may require reducing these values further.
• If your required load exceeds the chart figure for your stroke, move up in bore size, rod diameter, or add a second cylinder — don't exceed the rated figure.

Single-acting use

This cylinder can also be run single-acting. To limit contamination ingress, fit a breather plug into the air-side port at minimum. Running a hose from the air-side port back to the oil reservoir further reduces contamination ingress and extends seal life — recommended where practical.

Calculating Pin-to-Pin Centres

For cylinders with a 2" to 5" bore, the standard base dimension (referred to as Dimension "E") is 12.25" (311 mm).

To find the total lengths of your cylinder, you simply add your specific Stroke Length to that base dimension.

The Formula

1. Retracted Length (Closed): Base Dimension + Stroke
2. Extended Length (Open): Retracted Length + Stroke

Step-by-Step Example

If you are ordering a cylinder with a 10" (254 mm) Stroke:

• Step 1: Find the Retracted Length 12.25" (311 mm) + 10" (254 mm) = 22.25" (565 mm)
• Step 2: Find the Extended Length 22.25" (565 mm) + 10" (254 mm) = 32.25" (819 mm)
