
A crossline relief valve sits between the two working lines of a motor or double acting cylinder. Two relief cartridges face opposite ways, so a pressure spike in either direction is dumped across to the other line rather than into the component.
It is the standard protection for an orbital motor driving something with inertia — a conveyor, an auger, a winch. Stop the motor suddenly and the load keeps turning it; without a crossline relief that energy goes into the motor case and the shaft seal.

Set it above your working pressure. A crossline relief set too low will bleed across during normal running and the motor will feel gutless. Aim for 10 to 20 per cent above the highest pressure the function needs.
