Thread Standards

• SAE O-Ring Boss Male (UNO/UNF) – SAE J1926 / ISO 11926 straight thread O-ring boss. It seals on an O-ring squeezed against the port spotface, not on the thread.
• UNO O-Ring Boss Female (UNF) – SAE J1926 / ISO 11926 straight thread O-ring boss, female. It takes a UNO male whose O-ring seals against the spotface inside the port, never on the thread.

How to Choose

• On a branch tee the two in-line ports carry the main flow and the third port comes off the side at 90°. Get that the wrong way round and the tee physically will not fit the run.
• Every joint here seals on an O-ring against a spotface, never on the thread. No sealant on any port.
• Inspect the spotface inside each female before you fit anything to it. A nick in there is invisible once assembled.
• UNO and UNF callouts are the same family. Go by the full callout, for example 7/8-14.

Technicians Advice

Three soft seals and three threads that all look like they should take sealant, and none of them do. If it weeps, the answer is a ring or a spotface. Oil each ring and ease it in rather than dragging it on dry.

Where You’ll Find It

• SAE O-Ring Boss Male (UNO/UNF) – Cylinder end caps, pump and valve bosses on US-built plant. Common on Australian-assembled cylinders too, where it is usually called UNO.
• UNO O-Ring Boss Female (UNF) – American-built pumps, motors, valve banks and cylinders – Eaton, Parker, Sauer-Danfoss, Vickers – and anything built to SAE port standards. Common on skid steers, telehandlers and US-sourced attachments.

• SAE O-Ring Boss Male (UNO/UNF) – SAE J1926 / ISO 11926 straight thread O-ring boss. Also written ORB, SAE ORB or UNO. Thread form is UN/UNF.
• UNO O-Ring Boss Female (UNF) – SAE J1926-1 / ISO 11926 straight thread O-ring boss. Often written UNO, UN/UNF or SAE ORB. Parker call it Triple-Lok on the port side. Not the same as a JIC 37° female even where the thread size matches.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
