Technicians Advice

Nine times out of ten a leaking gun is a scored seat, not a tired seal, and that is why people fit a kit and it leaks again a fortnight later. Before you order, pull the outlet and look at the seat with a light - if you can catch a fingernail on a ridge, the seal kit will not save it and you need the seat or the valve assembly as well. The other common one: people fit the kit dry. Every one of these seals wants a smear of silicone grease on assembly, not oil and definitely not thread tape wound into the bore. Tape is the single biggest cause of a gun that will not seal after a rebuild, because a shred of it ends up under the ball. Finally, keep the old kit box. The part numbers on these guns change between production runs and the box from the last rebuild is often the fastest way to identify what you actually have.
