Thread Standards

• SAE 45° Flare Male – SAE J512 45° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 45° cone, which is shallower than a JIC 37°.

How to Choose

• A plug is male and blocks a female port. A cap is female and covers a male end. Work out which one the open connection is before you order.
• A 45° flare and a 37° JIC look near enough identical. Put the two cones nose to nose to tell them apart.
• The flare seals, not the thread, so nothing goes on the thread.

Technicians Advice

The 45° seat is shallow and soft. Wind it to a firm feel and stop, and if the seat is marked replace the plug rather than trying to make it seal, because a bruised 45° cone never comes good.
