SAE 45° Flare Female x SAE 45° Flare Male 90° Compact Elbow

SAE 45° flare both ends, turned 90°. The 45° flare is a shallower cone than JIC and turns up on refrigeration, LPG and some light automotive and agricultural lines.

Brand: Ayrtec – mild steel body with a plated finish, manufactured to the standards listed below.

Watch: Exploring Hydraulic Adaptors Part 1: Difference Between Branch Tee & Run Tee, Elbows Short and Long

Thread Standards

  • SAE 45° Flare Female – SAE J512 45° flare. It seals on the mating 45° cone and must not be paired with a JIC 37° fitting.
  • SAE 45° Flare Male – SAE J512 45° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 45° cone, which is shallower than a JIC 37°.

How to Choose

  • SAE 45° and JIC 37° look similar and share some thread sizes. The wrong cone angle seals briefly and then weeps.
  • Check the cone angle on the mating part before ordering, not the thread.
  • Neither end takes tape. Both seal metal to metal on the flare.

Technicians Advice

If a 45° joint keeps weeping, put a straight edge across the flare and look at the angle. A part that has been pulled up against a 37° cone will have a witness ring in the wrong place, and once the flare is marked it will not seal again.

Where You’ll Find It

  • SAE 45° Flare Female – Female side of 45° flare lines on refrigeration and light automotive work.
  • SAE 45° Flare Male – Refrigeration, LPG and some light automotive and agricultural lines.

Cross-Reference

  • SAE 45° Flare Female – SAE J512 45° flare.
  • SAE 45° Flare Male – SAE J512 45° flare. Shallower cone than JIC 37° and must not be mixed with it.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.

Cross-references are given at series level as a guide to the standard, not as a part-for-part substitution. Always confirm the thread form, size and seal type against the port before ordering.
