Technicians Advice

This is a volume reel, not a pressure reel. 1 inch bore at 145 psi is about moving a lot of water quickly for washdown - do not plumb it to a high pressure pump. The 1/2 inch throughput at the swivel is the restriction to design around.

The rule that matters most: the hose must be fully retracted when the reel is under pressure. Run water through a part-wound drum and the coiled layers heat against each other with no cooling, and you will cook the cover from the inside. Never let go of the hose on the rewind either - 20 metres of hose with a coupling on the end coming back under spring tension will crack a guide arm or take out a shin, which is exactly what the safety brake models exist for. On any site where the public or untrained staff can reach the reel, treat the brake as compulsory, not an upgrade. The ratchet catches every third or fourth turn rather than every turn, so if you want it to stop at a set length, pull past and let it click back. And do not open the spring housing. It is a wound cartridge under serious tension - if the reel stops rewinding, fit a new cartridge. Mount it square, too; a reel installed out of plumb feeds hose onto one side of the drum and chews the rollers inside a month.

A note on the pressure rating: the factory brochure for these reels quotes 200 bar (2,900 psi), which is the base configuration built in Italy. The reels supplied here are fitted with the 400 bar swivel as standard, which is what lifts the assembly to 5,800 psi. The drum and frame were never the limiting part - the swivel is. If you are cross-checking our specification against the brochure, that is the difference.
