Technicians Advice

The single biggest killer of trigger guns is not pressure, it is dead-heading. Every time the operator releases the trigger with the pump still running, the unloader dumps and the gun takes a pressure spike. Guns that spend their life on a machine with a worn or badly set unloader will chew seats and balls in weeks rather than years. If you are replacing guns more than once a year, the gun is not the problem - check the unloader setting and the bypass first. Second thing: put a swivel between the hose and the gun. Without one the operator twists the hose all day and the hose fitting fails at the crimp long before the hose itself is worn out. Third, if you run hot water, buy the temperature rated gun. Cold water guns on a hot machine will feel fine for a fortnight and then weep constantly, and by then the seat is scored and the repair kit will not fix it.
