A priority flow control takes one pump flow and guarantees a set amount to the priority function first, sending whatever is left over to the secondary circuit. Steering is the classic case: the steering orbital always gets its flow, and the implement gets the remainder.

These are the compact inline versions — no lever, adjusted by screw or knob and then left alone. Suited to a machine where the priority split is a design decision rather than something the operator changes.

Pressure compensated: the priority flow stays at the set value as the load on either circuit changes. That is what separates a priority valve from a simple flow divider.
