How to choose

  • Size is the ORFS thread size of the fitting (9/16", 11/16", 13/16" and up) – check the dash size stamped on the nut if unsure.
  • Replace the ring at every rebuild – they are cents against an oil-soaked engine bay.
  • Ring keeps blowing out of the groove? The joint was made up loose – see the advice below.
  • Mixed fleet? Grab a spread of sizes; ORFS rings are the first thing you run out of.

Technicians Advice

ORFS only seals when the faces meet flat and square – hold the fitting body with a second spanner so the hose does not twist as you torque the nut. If a ring keeps escaping the groove, the groove edge is burred or the joint was run up with the ring dry: a smear of clean oil holds the ring seated while you make up the joint. Never re-use a ring that has been flattened; the face witness line tells you it has done its job once already.
