NPT Tapered Male x ORFS Male 90° Compact Elbow

NPT into an older American port, ORFS flat face out to a modern hose, at 90°. The upgrade fitting for machines being re-hosed to O-ring face seal while the ports stay as they were.

Thread Standards

• NPT Tapered Male – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on thread interference, so tape or sealant is a must.
• ORFS Male – SAE J1453 O-ring face seal. It seals on an O-ring sitting in the flat face groove, never on the thread.

How to Choose

• Tape or sealant on the NPT end only. The ORFS face seals on its O-ring and takes nothing.
• Match the ORFS flat face size, not just the thread - ORFS threads repeat across different face diameters.
• Check the face O-ring is present and undamaged before assembly.

Technicians Advice

ORFS is chosen because it survives vibration better than a cone. That advantage is gone if the O-ring is nicked going on, so wipe the face, roll the O-ring into its groove rather than stretching it over the thread, and bring the nut up square.

• ORFS Male – High-pressure, high-vibration circuits on late-model excavators, drill rigs, crushers and forestry gear.

• NPT Tapered Male – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. The dryseal variant is written NPTF.
• ORFS Male – SAE J1453 / ISO 8434-3 O-ring face seal. Parker call this series Seal-Lok. Also written ORFS or flat face.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
