Thread Standards

• NPT Tapered Male – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on thread interference, so tape or sealant is a must.

How to Choose

• All three ports are the same size and thread, so it does not matter which way the tee goes in.
• Every joint seals on the thread, so all three need sealant.
• NPT is 60° and BSPT is 55°. They start together and chew out, so identify every mating part.

Technicians Advice

Most NPT weeps come from over-tightening, not under. Hand tight plus two or three turns at each port and stop. On a tee that is three chances to crack something with a long bar.
