NPT Tapered Female x SAE O-Ring Boss Male 90° Compact Elbow

Thread Standards

• NPT Tapered Female – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on the thread and needs tape or sealant every time.
• SAE O-Ring Boss Male (UNO/UNF) – SAE J1926 / ISO 11926 straight thread O-ring boss. It seals on an O-ring squeezed against the port spotface, not on the thread.

How to Choose

• The ORB end seals on an O-ring against a spotface. It will not seal in a tapered port.
• The NPT female needs tape or sealant. The ORB end must stay dry.
• Whatever screws into the female must be NPT male, not BSPT.

Technicians Advice

One end tapered, one end straight, and they want opposite treatment. Sealant in the female, clean oil on the boss O-ring, nothing else. If the boss end seeps it is a pinched O-ring, and more torque only makes it worse.

• SAE O-Ring Boss Male (UNO/UNF) – Cylinder end caps, pump and valve bosses on US-built plant. Common on Australian-assembled cylinders too, where it is usually called UNO.
