Thread Standards

• NPT Tapered Male – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on thread interference, so tape or sealant is a must.

How to Choose

• A plug is male and blocks a female port. A cap is female and covers a male end. Work out which one the open connection is before you order.
• The tapered thread seals on itself and needs sealant.
• NPT is 60° and BSPT is 55°. They start into each other and chew out, so identify the port first.

Technicians Advice

Most cracked ports come from over-tightening a plug rather than a fitting, because a plug feels like it needs to be really tight to be safe. It does not. Hand tight plus two or three turns.
