Thread Standards

• NPT Tapered Female – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on the thread and needs tape or sealant every time.

How to Choose

• A cap is female and covers a male end. A plug is male and blocks a female port. Check which the open connection is before you order.
• The tapered thread seals on itself, so this one does need sealant if it is going on to stay.
• NPT is 60° and BSPT is 55°. Identify the male before you wind the cap on.

Technicians Advice

If the cap is only there while the machine is apart, hand tight is plenty and skip the sealant. If it is a permanent blank, seal it properly and treat it like any other tapered joint.
