Metric Heavy (S) Male x NPT Tapered Male Straight Adaptor

Heavy series metric 24° cone one end, NPT tapered pipe thread the other. Joins European tube work to the American ports found on pumps, filter heads and gauge blocks.

Thread Standards

• Metric Heavy (S) Male – DIN 2353 / ISO 8434-1 24° cone, heavy series. It seals on the 24° cone and is built for higher pressures than the light series.
• NPT Tapered Male – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on thread interference, so tape or sealant is a must.

How to Choose

• The NPT end seals on the thread and needs sealant. The metric cone end does not, so keep sealant off it.
• NPT is 60°, BSPT is 55°. Confirm which one the port actually is rather than going by the size stamped on the housing.
• Heavy series is the higher-rated metric range. Do not swap in a light series body because the thread looks the same.

Technicians Advice

Wind the NPT end up hand tight then two or three turns and stop. Tapered thread wedges as it goes, and the extra torque people put in chasing a weep is what cracks a cast filter head. If it still seeps, back it out and redo the sealant.

• NPT Tapered Male – American-built gearboxes, pumps, compressors and older industrial pipework.
