JIC 37° Male x JIC 37° Male x NPT Tapered Male Branch Tee

Two JIC male ports in line with an NPT tapered male on the branch. Screws into an American pipe-thread port and gives you a JIC run off it.

Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.
• NPT Tapered Male – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on thread interference, so tape or sealant is a must.

How to Choose

• On a branch tee the two in-line ports carry the main flow and the third port comes off the side at 90°. Get that the wrong way round and the tee physically will not fit the run.
• The NPT branch seals on the thread and needs sealant. The JIC ports seal dry.
• NPT is 60° and BSPT is 55°. Identify the port properly before you wind it in.
• Keep sealant well clear of both JIC cones.

Technicians Advice

Do the NPT branch first, wipe your hands, then the two cones. And keep the tape back off the first two threads so nothing shears off into the circuit when it winds in.

• JIC 37° Male – Hose ends and ports on imported US and Asian machinery – Caterpillar, John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Bobcat, Kubota, Takeuchi.
• NPT Tapered Male – American-built gearboxes, pumps, compressors and older industrial pipework.

Cross-Reference

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Parker call this series Triple-Lok. The industrial cousin of the AN 37° flare used in aviation and motorsport.
• NPT Tapered Male – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. The dryseal variant is written NPTF.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
