JIC 37° Male x NPT Tapered Female Straight Adaptor

JIC 37° male one end, NPT tapered female the other. Accepts an NPT male fitting and converts it out to a JIC line, the reverse of the more common JIC female to NPT male.

Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.
• NPT Tapered Female – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on the thread and needs tape or sealant every time.

How to Choose

• The NPT female seals on the thread of whatever screws into it and needs sealant on that male.
• The JIC male seals dry on its 37° cone. Nothing on that thread.
• NPT and BSPT are not interchangeable. Confirm what the mating male actually is.

Technicians Advice

Because the female is the tapered end here, it is the part that splits if someone over-tightens the male going into it. Fit the mating male hand tight plus two or three turns and stop, and use sealant rather than torque to close the joint.

• JIC 37° Male – Hose ends and ports on imported US and Asian machinery – Caterpillar, John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Bobcat, Kubota, Takeuchi.
• NPT Tapered Female – Female side of American pipework, adaptor blocks and gauge manifolds.

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Parker call this series Triple-Lok. The industrial cousin of the AN 37° flare used in aviation and motorsport.
• NPT Tapered Female – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
