JIC 37° Male x NPT Tapered Female 90° Compact Elbow

Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.
• NPT Tapered Female – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on the thread and needs tape or sealant every time.

How to Choose

• Whatever screws into the female must be NPT male, not BSPT. The thread forms differ and BSPT will split the casting.
• The NPT female needs tape or sealant. The JIC male stays dry.
• Check the body rating if this sits in a working pressure line rather than on a gauge.

Technicians Advice

This fitting gets taped on the wrong end more than most. Sealant belongs in the female only. If it weeps at the JIC, strip any tape out and look at the cone - tape on a cone joint causes the leak rather than curing it.
