JIC 37° Male x Metric Stud Male Straight Adaptor

JIC 37° one end, metric stud with a soft seal the other. Gets a JIC hose into the straight metric ports on European pumps, valves and manifolds, where the seal sits under the shoulder rather than on the thread.

Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, so it takes no tape at all.
• Metric Stud Male – metric straight thread with a captive soft seal. It seals on a bonded washer or O-ring under the stud shoulder, not on the thread.

How to Choose

• The stud end seals on a bonded washer or O-ring under the shoulder. If the port face is not flat and clean it will weep.
• A metric stud is a straight thread. It does not tighten up on itself and it does not want thread sealant.
• Metric stud sizes run close together. M18 and M20 will both feel like they want to start, so check the thread before you wind it in.

Technicians Advice

The soft seal under the shoulder is a one-use part. Reusing a flattened bonded washer is the most common reason a metric stud port comes back weeping a fortnight later. Fit a fresh seal and pull it up to a firm feel rather than leaning on it.

• Metric Stud Male – European valve blocks and manifolds using a metric port with a soft seal under the shoulder.

• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Parker call this series Triple-Lok. The industrial cousin of the AN 37° flare used in aviation and motorsport.
• Metric Stud Male – Metric straight thread with a bonded washer or O-ring. Confirm the port series against the block before ordering.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
