JIC 37° Swivel Female x NPT Tapered Male Straight Adaptor

Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Swivel Female – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals on the 37° cone seat and swivels, so the hose is never wound up during assembly.
• NPT Tapered Male – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on thread interference, so tape or sealant is a must.

How to Choose

• The JIC female seals dry on its 37° cone and swivels. The NPT male seals on the thread and needs sealant.
• NPT is 60° and BSPT is 55°. They will start into each other and chew out, so identify the port before you fit.
• Keep sealant off the cone. Do the NPT end first and wipe your hands.

Technicians Advice

Most NPT weeps come from over-tightening, not under. Hand tight then two or three turns on the spanner and stop. Chasing a weep with more torque splits a cast filter head and turns a fitting job into a housing job.

Where You’ll Find It

• JIC 37° Swivel Female – Hose ends on imported machinery, where the swivel lets the assembly be fitted without winding up the hose.
• NPT Tapered Male – American-built gearboxes, pumps, compressors and older industrial pipework.
