JIC 37° Swivel Female x NPT Tapered Male 90° Compact Elbow

NPT into the port, JIC swivel out to the hose, turned 90°. The everyday crossover on American pumps, cylinders and gearboxes where the hose has to leave the port hard over.

Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Swivel Female – SAE J514 37° flare. It seals on the 37° cone seat and swivels, so the hose is never wound up during assembly.
• NPT Tapered Male – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on thread interference, so tape or sealant is a must.

How to Choose

• The NPT end takes tape or sealant. The JIC swivel must stay dry.
• NPT and BSPT are both tapered but different forms - 60° against 55°. Forcing one into the other wrecks both.
• NPT sizes are nominal. A 1/4 inch NPT thread measures about 13.7mm across the crests.

Technicians Advice

Start the tape two threads back and wrap the way the fitting tightens, or the first turn peels it into the bore and it ends up in a valve spool. Two or three wraps is plenty - packing the thread splits female castings.

Where You’ll Find It

• JIC 37° Swivel Female – Hose ends on imported machinery, where the swivel lets the assembly be fitted without winding up the hose.
• NPT Tapered Male – American-built gearboxes, pumps, compressors and older industrial pipework.
