JIC Bulkhead Male x NPT Tapered Female Straight Bulkhead Adaptor

Thread Standards

• JIC 37° Bulkhead Male – SAE J514 37° flare on a bulkhead body with a locknut. It seals on the 37° cone at each end; the bulkhead body passes through a panel and is held by a locknut, which does no sealing.
• NPT Tapered Female – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread. It seals on the thread and needs tape or sealant every time.

How to Choose

• The bulkhead thread and locknut clamp the fitting to the panel. They do no sealing, so do not try to cure a leak by tightening the locknut.
• Check your panel hole size and thickness before you order. The body has a set thread length under the shoulder and a thick panel eats it.
• The NPT female needs sealant on whatever male winds into it. The JIC end seals dry on its cone.

Technicians Advice

The tapered female is the part that splits if a male is over-tightened into it, and it is doing that while clamped to a panel with nowhere to flex. Hand tight plus two or three turns on that male and stop.

• JIC 37° Bulkhead Male – anywhere a line has to pass through a panel, chassis rail, tank wall or guard and be supported there – tractors, harvesters, truck bodies, tank installations and any tidy machine build.
• NPT Tapered Female – Female side of American pipework, adaptor blocks and gauge manifolds.

• JIC 37° Bulkhead Male – SAE J514 37° bulkhead. Parker call the 37° range Triple-Lok. The long thread under the cone is for the panel and the locknut, not for sealing.
• NPT Tapered Female – ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered pipe thread.

Parker, Gates, Aeroquip and Ryco all manufacture to these same standards under their own part numbering, so a fitting built to the standard above will mate with theirs.
