316 Stainless Steel BSP Parallel Male x JIC Male - 90° Compact Elbow

A 90° compact BSP Parallel Male x JIC 37° Male adaptor machined from 316 stainless steel. It does the same job as the plated steel version, in the places where plated steel rusts: salt water, washdown areas and chemical service.

Thread Standards

• BSP Parallel Male – BSPP to ISO 228 / BS 2779. Parallel thread with a 60° cone nose: seals into a BSP swivel female seat, or into a port with a bonded washer.
• JIC 37° Male – SAE J514 / ISO 8434-2 37° flare. Seals metal-to-metal on the 37° cone, no tape or sealant.

How to Choose

• Size each end separately: one end to the port, the other to the hose or pipe it meets.
• BSPT ends need sealant, JIC ends take none. Getting that the wrong way round is the most common leak.
• A JIC 37° end will not seal against a BSP 60° cone even though the nut threads on.
• Choose 316 where the fitting sees salt, washdown chemicals or food contact. Plated carbon steel is fine everywhere else.

Technicians Advice

Stainless threads gall. Run 316 into 316 dry and it can pick up and seize before it is tight, and then it will not come apart again. Put a smear of stainless-rated anti-seize on the male thread (on a BSPT end use a sealant rated for stainless), tighten steadily by hand and spanner, never with a rattle gun, and stop at the torque you would use on steel. If it starts to bind, back it off and clean the thread rather than forcing it.
